NASA Has Broken Down All The Disturbing Ways 2019 Smashed Records:
In the past five years alone, in fact, we have experienced the warmest temperatures of the last 140 years.
“We crossed over into more than 2 degrees Fahrenheit warming [roughly 1.1 degree Celsius] territory in 2015 and we are unlikely to go back,” said Gavin Schmidt, director of NASA’s Goddard Institute, in a recent press release.
“This shows that what’s happening is persistent, not a fluke due to some weather phenomenon: we know that the long-term trends are being driven by the increasing levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.”
Opinion | How Scientists Cracked the Climate Change Case:
For the past 100 years we have documented good, independently confirmed observations of change at the surface of the planet, and for the past 40 years satellites and comprehensive measuring efforts have provided a much fuller view of changes throughout the earth system. These observations show clearly that among other things, the surface of the planet has warmed, the upper atmosphere has cooled, the oceans are gaining an enormous amount of heat, sea level is rising, Arctic ice has greatly receded and glaciers around the world are in retreat.
World needs to make near-revolutionary change to avoid imminent climate disaster. Is there hope?:
“There is no documented historic precedent for the changes needed to prevent even worst disasters from coming.”
